The President referred to the project pertaining to the beach and islands' development and said this would be a mega project of international standard.
He said for this the land would be reclaimed from the sea and we hope that in the centre of this project there will be a building of 1947 feet high - one of the tallest buildings in the world.
"Inshallah we will make it. We must show the world that this is an emerging, progressive, dynamic country and we are second to none. We know how to handle ourselves. We know what progress and prosperity means and that is what we need to show to everyone", Musharraf remarked. He said with the development projects like these, Karachi will attain a higher stature in the world not only for Pakistan but for the region as well as internationally.
He assured that in place of the number of trees to be cut during the development process, two times more would be planted. Musharraf further said if we cut the trees we would plant better ones in their place. He also assured that because of development there would be no problem for the environment.
The President said treatment plants are being installed so that the water that is drained into the sea becomes clean and we must also recover the mangroves forests. He also asked the environmentalists that their focus should be correct. We must look after the environment but it must not impede the economic growth and development as well as the city and the area's development.
He announced a sum of Rs two million for all those involved in the development of Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim. Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the Park in Clifton area here on Tuesday, he lauded their excellent work in appreciation of efforts they put in, in this respect.
The inaugural function was attended among others by the Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul- Ibad, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Corps Commander Lieutenant General Azhar Saleem Hayat, federal and provincial minister, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil, diplomats, elected representatives, elite of the city and notables were present on the occasion.
