President Pervez Musharraf's current visit of four important countries of the Middle East is focused to restart the stalled peace process for resolution of Palestine problem and avert prevailing dangerous situation in the Region, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said here on Monday.

In her weekly press briefing, she said leaders of a number of countries had asked Pakistan that as an important Islamic country it should play its role to make fresh efforts involving Arab and other influential Muslim countries for peace and conflict resolution in the Middle East.

She recalled that before undertaking visits of Arab neighbours of Palestine including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Syria, President Musharraf also spoke to the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on telephone and exchanged views with him over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

Tasnim said during his four-day visit President is holding consultations and exchanging ideas with King Abdullah, President Hosni Mubarak, King Abdullah of Jordan and President Bashar Al-Assad of Syria for a strategy to break the deadlock as Middle East situation continues to be a source of deep global concern especially for the Islamic world.

She said the President is also discussing Pakistan's ideas to address the Palestine issue and the Middle East situation to avert dangers to the global peace which she could not elaborate at this stage of the visit. She said Pakistan has repeatedly stated and the international community agrees with it that a comprehensive strategy needs, which also addresses underlying causes of terrorism since military actions alone cannot eliminate international terrorism.

APHC LEADERS' VISIT TO PAKISTAN The spokesperson said leaders of All Parties Hurriat Conference are currently on visit to Pakistan to have consultations with the Pakistani and Kashmiri leaders for solution of the Kashmir problem which is the core issue between Pakistan and India..

She said Pakistan has proposed demilitarisation of Kashmir and as a first step India should relocate its 0.750 million troops away from the urban centers of population so that the people have a breathing space and there were less violations of the Human rights.. She said Pakistan has also asked India to remove its long procedure to ease the travel of Kashmiris living on two sides of control line.

MULLAH OMAR IN AFGHANISAN Replying to questions relating to various accusations of Afghanistan, the spokesperson said the ousted Taliban leader Mullah Omar is likely based in Kandahar from where he is marshalling his Taliban against the Afghan government.

She said Pakistan and the United States have been sharing intelligence but nobody exactly know whereabouts of Mullah Omar but the likely scenario is that he has based near Kandahar.

She said Pakistan is hosting three million Afghan refugees and 1.2 million people move across the 2,563 kilometer porus border every month which is the largest number of movement of people between the two countries in the world. She said that there was a possibility that a few Taliban might also cross border since they are not distinct from the other Afghan nationals.
