The European Commission has approved the start of legal proceedings against Germany's new telecom law once that law comes into effect, a spokesman for the European Union executive said on Wednesday.

EU Information and Media Society Commissioner Viviane Reding has repeatedly accused Berlin of adopting a law that will allow Deutsche Telekom to avoid opening its new high-speed broadband network to competitors.
