However, an inter-departmental meeting on Tuesday, chaired by the Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, constituted a committee of stakeholders, headed by Riaz Ahmad Khan, Adviser to Ministry of Water and Power.
The committee would formulate the terms of reference (TOR) for engaging a consultant of international repute who would look into the operations of the system showing differences in data collection, formulae for discharge of water releases and compare it with manual discharge measurement. The committee will have membership from all provinces, Irsa, Wapda, PMIC and Ministry of Water and Power. The findings and recommendations of the consultant would be final and binding on all stakeholders.
Both the government and Siemens, contractors of telemetry system, have serious differences about the accuracy of its operation. The company is of the view that system is fit, but the Minister for Water and Power accused the company of giving faulty meters, which even created misunderstanding among the federating units.
According to a press release, the meeting reviewed the progress in operation of telemetry system. The Minister listened to the views of all stakeholders and emphasised that the purpose of installing the telemetry system was to build up confidence among the provinces.
