The Government of Cuba has offered 1000 scholarships for Pakistani students to pursue graduate studies in General Comprehensive Medicine in Cuba, which is equivalent to MBBS.

The scholarship scheme was suggested to the Cuban government by their medical teams, which worked relentlessly in the earthquake-hit areas of AJK & NWFP to provide medical training to people especially from these areas, says a press release issued on Friday.

The Higher Education Commission has completed selection of 500 candidates to study medicine on scholarships offered by the Cuban Government. The first batch (2006 session) is expected to leave for Cuba in the first week of November.

The results of the selected candidates and those placed on the waiting list have been uploaded on the HEC website: www.hec.gov.pk/cuba. The remaining scholarships will be provided in 2007.

The statement said 200 scholarships were reserved for applicants of earthquake-affected areas, as defined by Erra, while the remaining 800 scholarships would be awarded on the basis of provincial quota.-PR
