They had maximum speed limit but, new carriages being produced in Islamabad Railway Carriage Factory with Chinese technology can run upto 140 kilometer speed per hour.
New carriages have many other facilities, which were not in old design of 1960s with German technology.
He said, new carriages have better bogies and trolleys, which control and reduce bumps and jumps during the railway journey.
The chairman said Pakistan Railway was working on various new projects, adding that at present many proposals were at feasibility stage.
He said that the Railways was conducting a feasibility study to link the Gwadar sea port with Quetta. New tracks will be laid between the two cities in the first phase, to be extended later to Chaman and Kandhar in Afghanistan.
He said, Gwadar to Quetta rail link would be 940 kilometer long. Its feasibility is nearly completed, he added.
He informed that in next six months, Quetta-Bostan and Bostan-Zoab narrow gauge railway track would be converted into broad gauge.
He said, another mega project, Peshawar to Kohat via Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Zob, right bank of the Indus, railway line would be laid down. The project will lessen nearly 250-km distance between Peshawar and Karachi, besides railway line would bring development in this area, he added.
He said, another proposal was being worked out for fast train service having speed limit of 200-250km per hour, between Rawalpindi and Lahore.
To a question he said, new rail track would be laid down and new tunnels would be made for the project.
