The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on April 27 for the lowest income group up to Rs 3,000 has registered nominal increase over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 140.69 as against the previous week's 140.77, showing 0.09 percent increase, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

During the week under review, average prices of nine items registered decrease, while those of 24 items increased with remaining 20 items' prices unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week included chicken farm, tomatoes, onions, garlic, red chillies (powdered), wheat, wheat flour average quality, tea (packet) and rice basmati broken.

The items, which registered increase in their prices included gram pulse washed, mash pulse washed, moong pulse washed, Gur, egg (farm), bananas, masoor pulse washed, LPG (11kg cylinder), washing soap (nylon), cooked Dal (plate), voil printed, cooked beef (plate), mutton, bread plain medium size, sugar, lawn, beef, milk fresh, vegetable ghee (loose), curd, shirting, kerosene, mustard oil and milk powdered (Nido).

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice IRRI-6, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), potatoes, salt (powdered), tea (prepared), cigarettes K-2, coarse Latha, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal spng. (Bata), firewood, electricity bulb (60-watts), match box, bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, electricity charges 1-100, petrol, diesel and telephone charges.
