The Parliamentary Board of Pakistan Muslim League on Wednesday awarded tickets to 19 candidates for the forthcoming Senate elections. The board meeting, presided over by party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, unanimously decided to issue tickets to the following candidates:

ISLAMABAD: Wasim Sajjad for Technocrat and Tariq Azim for General seats.

PUNJAB: Javed Ali Shah, Naeem Hussain Chattha, Javed Ashraf Qazi, Mohammad Ali Durrani and Jamal Leghari for General seats. S M Zafar and Haroon Akhtar for Technocrat seats. Mrs Gulshan Saeed and Mrs Nilofar Bakhtiar for Women seats.

SINDH: Justice Abdul Razzaq Thaheem (Retd), Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi and Krishan Chand Parwani for General seats. Ms Simin Siddiqui for Woman seat. Minister for Privatisation Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has not been awarded a ticket.

BALOCHISTAN: Syed Fazal Agha, Jan Muhammad Jamali and Israr Zehri for General seats. Saeed Hashmi for Technocrat seat. Rehana Yahya Baloch and Mrs Roshan Khurshid Barucha for Women seats.

The meeting decided that the list of candidates for NWFP would be announced in consultation with other coalition parties.

The board met at the Prime Minister House and the meeting was attended by members Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Chief Minister and Punjab PML President Chaudhry Pervaiz Ilahi, Chief Minister and Sindh PML President Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Chief Minister and PML Balochistan President Jam Muhammad Yousaf, Minister of State for Water and Power and PML NWFP President Engineer Amir Muqam and PML Secretary General Senator Mushahid Hussain, who is also secretary of the Parliamentary Board.

The Parliamentary Board nominated the candidates after considering in detail all applications received for the Senate seats.

The members of the Board thanked Shujaat Hussain for institutionalising the process of democratic consultations. They also lauded the fact that the process of selection of candidates in the provinces was done without any pressure or interference and their services to the party were also considered.

The Board also appreciated the role of the Prime Minister which has politically strengthened the PML at all levels, particularly in the domain of decision-making on various issues.
