The Sindh government has declared that the following holidays will be observed as festival holidays by all the workers during the year 2006.

Eid-ul-Azha (10 Zil Haj l426) Tuesday and Wednesday 10 and 11 January, Kashmir Day, Sunday 5th February, Ashura 1427 (9 and 10 Moharrum) Monday and Tuesday 6 and 7 February, Pakistan Day Thursday 23 March, Eid-Milad-ul-Nabi (12 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1427) Tuesday 11 April, Labour Day Monday 1st May, Independence Day Monday 14th August, Eid-ul-Fitr (1st Shawwal 1427) Sunday, Monday, Tuesday 22 to 24 October, Iqbal Day Thursday 9 November, Quaid-e-Azam Day/Christmas Monday 25 December and Eid-ul-Azha (10 Zil Haj 1427) Saturday and Sunday 30 and 31 December, 2006.

The following days shall also be observed as festival holidays by the workers belonging to the communities shown below:

HINDUS: Holi Tuesday 14th March, Janam Ashtami Wednesday 16th August, Durga Puja Monday 2nd October, Dussehra Monday 2nd October and Divali Saturday 21st October 2006.

UBALAMIKIES: Birthday of Guru Balmik Swamiji Saturday 7th October, 2006.

CHRISTIANS: Good Friday 14th April, Easter, Sunday 16th April and Day after Christmas Tuesday 26th December 2006.

PARSIS: Parsi New Year Day (Nauroze) Sunday 20th August and Birthday of Khordadsal Lord Zoroaster Friday 25th August 2006.

BUDDHIST: Buddah Purnima Saturday 13th May 2006.

SIKH: Guru Nanak's Birthday Sunday 5th November 2006.

The Muslim festival holidays will be subject to the appearance of moon, as per decision of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will be communicated through various information media.

The Muslim workers belonging to an establishment, as a body at their option, but with seven-day notice to the employers may observe festival holidays on Shab-e-Barat and Shab-e-Meraj in lieu of any of the festival holiday listed.

There will be no substitution of holidays falling on Sunday, it was further stated.
