Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Friday said President General Musharraf will not announce the construction of Kalabagh Dam as he was only examining the pulses of the provinces over the matter and will not initiate the project without evolving consensus among the federating units.

Talking to journalists here after attending a seminar the chief minister Sindh said they have been supporting the President's water vision regarding water reservoirs.

However, he said that Sindh has reservations against construction of canal from the proposed Kalabagh dam. He said reservation of Sindh should be removed before the announcement of Kalabagh and for this purpose President Musharraf has started visits to the province to check the nerves of the people over the issue.

In response a question that how Kalabagh would affect the federation, Arbab Ghulam Rahim said President Musharraf was a symbol of federation therefore he would perform his duty accordingly.

Regarding NFC award he said there was no consensus among the province over NFC because every province has its own interest and they would defend it.

Commenting on the Shams-ul-Mulk, former chairman Wapda statement on construction of canals from Kalabagh, chief minister Sindh said he was changing his statements therefore he would not bother about his statement. "He is nothing for me, he is a technocrat who change statements repeatedly," he remarked.

Earlier in his address to a one-day seminar organised by Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in collaboration with UNDP and RIROP, Arbab Ghulam Rahim said corruption was big menace confronting the society, and must be rooted out to improve the performance of police.

He said no law could bring change in the society until every member of the society would not change himself to perform his duty with honesty and with a fear from Allah. He regretted that people doing corruption now being considered as wise and intelligent however the honest were now being labelled as fool.

He appreciated the public-police liaison and said Sindh government had been experiencing community police in Karachi due to which crime ratio has decreased to zero level. Arbab Ghulam Rahim lauded the law and order situation in NWFP and said they were trying to maintain law and order in Sindh and had been choosing honest police officers for this purpose.

Earlier Chief Minister Durrani acknowledged the assistance that chief minister Sindh extended during last three calamities faced by the province. He said Arbab Ghulam Rahim was the first person that contacted soon after the earthquake hit NWFP on 8th October.
