Rector COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Dr S.M Junaid Zaidi on Friday said adoption of new information systems could better prepare Pakistan for any future natural disaster.

Speaking in a PTV programme "News Morning", he said during the recently concluded two-day conference on "Frontier Technologies in Information Technology" here, the participants took up the issues of information security and disaster management.

Junaid Zaidi said the conference during the brainstorming session discussed the importance of disaster management. The experts were of the view that better IT systems could result in timely information in the aftermath of the earthquake of October 8 in Pakistan.

He said during the deliberations they also studied the information models used by the United States after the Katrina disaster. He underlined the need for more research activities in collaboration with the United States and European countries. Junaid said Pakistan has capable brains and talented group of scientists to pursue research activities in e-commerce, e-government and software technologies.
