Punjab University vice-chancellor, Arshad Mahmood chaired a meeting of Higher Education Commission (HEC) foreign faculty here Friday, in which educational and management issues came under discussion.

Speaking on the occasion, Arshad said the university had ensured an enabling environment for the foreign teachers and they must collaborate with industry and professionals in the field to make their research result-oriented. He said the university had converted syllabus into curriculum and an assessment programme of teachers was in place to improve the quality of education.

Dr Anis Siddiqui of College of Art & Design said on the occasion that the college had incorporated changes in the syllabus to meet the present day requirements. He said the college was working on a plan to introduce new building codes in the wake of October 8 earthquake.

Dr Sajida Hasan of National Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) said the centre had discussed with Shaukat Khanum, Jinnah Hospital and Sheikh Zayed Hospital to collaborate research in stem cells.

Dr Ishrat Waheed of CEMB, Dr Munir Ahmed Sultan of Department of Economics, Dr Naeem Rashid of School of Biological Sciences, Dr Jawad Fridoon of CEMB, Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin of Department of Sociology, Dr Sajjad Chaudhry of Institute of Quality & Technology Management, Dr Ashraf Khan Kiyani of Department of Sociology, Professor M A K Lodhi of Department of Space Science and Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mehmood Butt called on Punjab University VC Arshad Mahmood and briefed him about the academic and infrastructure developments carried out by the university in recent years. He said Punjab University would seek collaboration with AIOU in online learning and added the university would introduce master degree in curriculum development in near future.
