Computer literacy centres will be established in every union council of Islamabad to promote computer education, especially among women. Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Khalid Pervez stated this while inaugurating the Computer Literacy Centre for women in Union Council 'Charah' here on Thursday.

He said computer education was essential for the development in current era and rural population would be provided equal opportunities for higher education.

The chief commissioner said the district administration had launched several rural development projects with a total cost of Rs 320 million.

Women Programme Officer Seema Tauseef said that ICT administration had already set up computer literacy centres at Tarlai, Bhara Kahu and Rawat where 3,000 women were being imparted computer training every year.

Five more computer literacy centres would be established soon at union councils Tameer, Phulgran, Sihala and Kirpa, she said.

Seema Tauseef said that different programmes were being initiated to teach the women various skills and to upgrade their income resources, which include embroidery, flower making, painting and glass manufacturing.

Later, the chief commissioner distributed certificates among the women, who successfully completed their computer courses.

On the occasion, the prominent personalities of the area lauded the efforts of district administration for the development of the rural areas.

The chief commissioner also listened to the problems of local population and directed the relevant authorities to ensure instant solution of the problem.

Meanwhile, the chief commissioner also visited the relief camp at Tarlali established for the earthquake victims.

He was briefed about the facilities being provided to quake-victims by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, Yousaf-ul-Meraj from Kuwait Red Crescent and Chief Co-ordinator Mirza Inayatullah.

The chief commissioner expressed his satisfaction over these facilities at relief camp supervised by district administration.
