The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned the proceedings in a petition filed by one Najam Zaheer, a Town Nazim of Faisalabad, seeking court directions that recounting could not be held without any solid proof about rigging.

The court, however, directed the law officer to assist the court on the point whether recounting could be held only on simple request of recounting or not.

The petitioner contended that he had won the election of Town Nazim, but his rival candidate approached the Election Tribunal with prayer for recounting of votes. He contended that there was no complaint of rigging or any other irregularity in this election.

He, therefore, prayed to the court to announce that recounting could not be held without any solid proof of rigging or any other irregularity in the election.

The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, admitted the petition for regular hearing and issued notices to the respondents without fixing next date of hearing.
