To help alleviate the difficulties and hardships of earthquake-affected employees of Pakistan Steel, the management has decided to compensate them with non-refundable grant of Rs 50,000 per family in addition to 30 corrugated galvanised sheets per family for construction of their houses.

This grant will be over and above Rs25,000 per family.

This was announced by chairman Pakistan Steel Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum ( Retd) while addressing a large gathering of the affected employees and leaders of trade unions at the technical library of Pakistan Steel, at Bin Qasim here, says a statement on Thursday. It said that the total number of affected employees of Pakistan Steel is 184.

The cheques will be presented to them after verification of their credentials through concerned local authorities.

It is worth mentioning here that earlier Pakistan Steel has also donated over 100,000 corrugated galvanised sheets worth over Rs 90 million for the affected population.

This is besides the donation of Rs 10 million to the President's Earthquake Relief Fund, as well as additional ration and utility items worth Rs 10 million.
