Pakistan and UAE agreed on Tuesday to boost their trade and investment ties as President Pervez Musharraf and his counterpart Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan showed firm commitment to push forward economic co-operation between the two countries.

They expressed satisfaction over progress on the privatisation of PTCL during their meeting here. Privatisation Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, who is the minister for waiting for the royal visitor, was also present during the meeting.

Both the leaders discussed issues being confronted by the Muslim Ummah and matters of bilateral interest of both the countries. These included bilateral trade between Pakistan and the UAE. The two sides decided to take benefit of each other's expertise in different key areas, particularly manpower and oil and gas sectors.

Both the leaders reiterated their firm commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties in future.

The two sides also exchanged views on several international issues, including Iraq, Palestine and Kashmir and stressed upon the need of just solution to these problems.

President Musharraf apprised the UAE counterpart about Pakistan's strategy for rehabilitation and reconstruction of October 8 earthquake. He said Pakistan was pursuing an effective policy to provide all-possible help fore early rehabilitation of the affected people and reconstruction of the damaged areas.

The UAE president assured President Musharraf that his country would continue to help Pakistan in rehabilitation and reconstruction work, besides ensuring all-out financial and logistic support to the survivors. He said the UAE and Pakistan were time-tested friends and his country would not leave brotherly country alone in this hour of trial. He said Pakistani nation was facing this natural catastrophe with unprecedented courage.

He said that Pakistan and the UAE have identical views on all bilateral and international issues and want peaceful solution to all the problems being faced by the Muslim Ummah.

Earlier, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday morning on his first official visit.
