The European Union (EU) on Friday reduced the anti-dumping duty imposed on Pakistani bed linen to 7.4 percent from 13.1 percent, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.

According to details, the reduced duty on Chenab Textile Mills would be 12.7 percent, followed by Nishat Mills 9.5 percent, Lucky Textile Mills 8.8 percent and Younus Textile Mills 8.5 percent.

Similarly, the anti-dumping duty on Gul Ahmed Textile Mills has been reduced to 6.8 percent, Al-Abid Silk Mills 3.5 percent, Mohammad Farooq Textile Mills 3.4 percent and on Fairdeal to zero percent.

When contacted, a leading bed linen exporter said, "We have just received the initial documents from the EU, apprising us that the anti-dumping duty imposed on Pakistani bed linen has been cut, however, the said decision will be implemented after it is printed in official journal."

The exporters have termed this decision as an 'achievement' and lauded the efforts made by Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar and officials of the ministry.
