President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday expressed an unflinching resolve to carry forward the process of socio-economic development in the remote areas, irrespective of disruptive attempts by anti-development elements.

Both the leaders in a meeting here stressed that the government would not allow subversive activities by a tiny minority to come in the way of well-being of the masses, who want to utilise their potential and resources for their long deserved progress and prosperity.

Musharraf and Shaukat said the development projects are aimed at socio-economic improvement in the lives of the people in far-flung areas as their progress means progress of the country.

They also reviewed the pace of work on various development projects and emphasised that the government would remain undeterred and pursue all development projects to their logical conclusion.

The development projects, they observed, would herald progress by transmitting benefits of mainstream economic development at the grassroots level.

The country has entered a vital stage of economic advancement, so nobody will be allowed to impede the process of development, they maintained.

Discussing law and order, they noted the need to keep a strict check on saboteurs and bring them to book in accordance with the law of the land.

They also exchanged views on current political environment in the country.

Later, Musharraf and Shaukat chaired a high-level meeting to review water strategy 2020.

The meeting was attended by PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Privatisation Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Sindh CM Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, MNA Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, Provincial Minister Nadir Leghari and PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed.

Later, Federal Information Minister Sheikh Rashid while talking to PTV said the issue of water reservoirs was discussed thoroughly in the meeting.

He said the meeting was told that there were two reports regarding water issue ie technical report and report of Parliamentary Committee.

It was decided that committee report would be sent to the two houses of Parliament whereas the technical report would be made public for the people.

The minister said All Parties Conference (APC) will be called by the Prime Minister in which the opposition leaders would be given briefing about water situation. Sheikh Rashid said that an awareness campaign would also be launched through media.

He said it was the desire of the President to contact youth, haris and farmers of interior Sindh. Musharraf also wanted to remove their concerns and reservations and bring them under discussion, the minister added.

Sheikh Rashid said three to four committees have already been constituted to resolve the issue in a practical manner. He said the Prime Minister and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain would head the political committees whereas, a media committee would also be constituted.
