Talking to a trade delegation of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry, who accompanied by British Consul General Hamish Denial met him at the Governor House here on Tuesday, he said that the nation was determined to achieve the set goals of economic progress and development.
Sindh Chief Secretary, Fazlur Rehman and other officials were also present. Dr Ibad apprised the delegation of investment opportunities available in the province besides the investment-friendly policies of the government and the measures taken so far to encourage the foreign investors.
Governor Ibad said that Karachi was the emerging hub of economic activities in the region and added that there had been a positive change in recent years with regard to city's image and now the world investors had started grasping the investment opportunities due to improved law and order here.
The government had simplified the rules and regulations owing to which the industries were planning their expansion and referred to Nooriabad estate, where the number of industrial units had increased to 61 in just two years from only five.
He elaborated the liberalisation, deregulation and privatisation policies of the government with especial reference to ensuring their consistency.
Governor informed the delegation about the comparatively greater margin of profits here than other countries of the region. He also dwelt on higher education, engineering and information technology sectors.
Governor lauded the assistance extended by British government for earthquake victims.
The delegation was also briefed on democratic institutions especially the local governments established under devolution of power program.
Governor welcomed the signing of a tripartite project by Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and European Union Asia Investment and hoped that it would bear good results.
The project is expected to be completed in two years at an estimated cost of 300,000 Euro.
