This layoff would include 1898 employees of Telecom Foundation and 2000 direct contractual employees of phone utility.
Sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday that this move of PTCL management would hamper some service areas of the phone utility, like company's information services (No 17) which was planned earlier to award to private sector.
Presently, the employees of Telecom Foundation are deputed in various establishments of PTCL throughout the country.

Islamabad Telecommunication Region (ITR) 40 employees, Rawalpindi Telecommunication Region (RTR) 26. Northern Telecommunication Region-I (Peshawar) 54, NTR-II (D. I. Khan) 88, Hazara Telecommunication Region (HTR) (Abbotabad) 59.
Gujranwala Telecommunication Region (GTR) 31, Central Telecommunication Region (CTR) 14, Lahore Telecommunication Region (LTR) South 39, LTR North 3, Faisalabad Telecommunication Region (FTR) 62, Multan Telecommunication Region (MTR) 112. Southern Telecommunication Region-I (STR-I) Hyderabad 42, STR-II Karachi 106, STR-III 131, STR-V Sukkur 16.
Western Telecommunication Region (WTR) 42 and Overseas Telecommunication Region (OTR) Islamabad 157, OTR (Karachi) 103, Optical Fibre System Region 770 employees throughout the country.
