President General Pervez Musharraf is to embark on official tour of Kuwait, Yemen and Saudi Arabia from December 3 to 8, during which he will also attend the Third Extraordinary OIC Summit in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

At the weekly news briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam unfolded the agenda of President's three-nation tour. During his visit to Kuwait and Yemen, Tasnim said, the President would hold official talks with the leaders of the two countries.

She said Kuwait is Pakistan's third largest economic partner in the Gulf Co-operation Council after Saudi Arabia and the UAE and it is also a principal source of oil and petroleum imports to Pakistan.

In the aftermath of October earthquake, Kuwait announced relief assistance of $100 million, she added. Moreover, in the area of investment, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has provided over $200 million since 1976 and is currently financing seven projects worth $245 million in Pakistan.

Tasnim said the visit of President to Kuwait is mainly aimed at strengthening economic relations and exploring further avenues of co-operation, particularly to further manpower export and investment.

She said that President Musharraf would attend the Third Extraordinary OIC Summit in Makkah Al-Mukarramah on December 7 and 8. Beside addressing the summit he will hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of OIC member countries.

The summit will be preceded by a preparatory meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of OIC member states on December 6.

The spokesperson said that the Makkah Summit would consider and approve a 'ten-year programme of action' based on the 'Recommendations' of the Commission of Eminent Persons (CEP) and Makkah Forum of Scholars and Intellectuals.

She told newsmen that the summit is expected to deliberate upon a strategy for addressing the problems and challenges encountered by the Muslim world.

The proposed strategy will outline a course of collective action by the OIC member countries on a whole range of issues including Islamophobia, promotion of intra-OIC trade and commercial links, sustainable development, literacy, international terrorism, development of science and technology.

She said that the issue of durable peace in the Middle East would also be on the agenda of the summit. However, she did not give any positive answer when asked whether the issue of Kashmir would also come under discussion.
