Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that he would soon announce the sponsorship scheme for rehabilitation of quake victims and reconstruction of the affected areas of the NWFP and Azad Kashmir.

Talking to newsmen at the Prime Minister House here on Sunday evening, he said that under this scheme, the international humanitarian community, friendly countries, overseas Pakistanis and the civil society would be offered to adopt a village, a tehsil or a district for rehabilitation and reconstruction work.

Shaukat Aziz said that individuals and groups would also be offered to build a college, a vocational institute, a hospital or an institute for manufacturing artificial limbs.

Official sources told Business Recorder that Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday and discussed the agenda of meeting of parliamentary committee to be held next week for oversight of rehabilitation and reconstruction plans in which heads of all parties in the government and opposition would be invited.

Shaukat Aziz said that the objective of setting up this body was to get guidance and input from the public representatives since the government wanted to take all the political parties into confidence on every important national matter.

He said that the committee would provide a platform to public representatives to present their proposals and forward useful ideas for early rehabilitation of quake-affected areas.

"The rehabilitation and reconstruction is a national issue and not confined to one party or individual, therefore the government desired to accomplish this task in the best possible manner with inputs and guidance from all sections of society particularly the public representatives," the Prime Minister emphasised.
