Speakers paid glowing tributes to the poet of the east, Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal, to celebrate his 128th birth anniversary in Peshawar.

Pakistan Academy of Letters, Peshawar chapter arranged the function. Dr Salma Shaheen, Director Pashto Academy presided while renowned scholar Professor Dr Iqbal Naseem Khattak was the chief guest on the occasion.

Masood Islami, DG Iranian Cultural Center Peshawar, Yousaf Raja Chishti, Professor Faqira Khan Faqri, Professor Dr Yar Muhammad Maghmoom, Professor Abaseen Yousafzai and Said Wali Khayal Momand, Director PAL Peshawar also spoke.

The speakers said that Allama Iqbal was a staunch Muslim and true follower of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). He loved Pathans and Afghans as courageous freedom fighters and pinned great expectations with them to bring ummah out of the backwardness and ignorance while the Afghans also loved and respected him from core of their hearts.

They said that Allama Iqbal was not only a foresighted statesman and scholar but also his poetry proved beacon-light for Muslims of the Sub-continent to get rid of dual subjugation of British and Hindu's and thus had a separate sovereign state of their own.

They said that his political, literary and educational contribution for the cause of ummah could not be underestimated.

The speakers said it was dire need to keep our youth abreast with teachings of this great thinker of Pakistan to enable them make this country prosperous.

They said Iqbal was a great reformer who gave message of peace, fraternity and love for the entire humanity.-PR
