The Nazim said that the consultancy work has been awarded to Nespak, who has already completed the groundwork.
"Korangi is the biggest industrial estate of Pakistan but unfortunately, in last many years, no expenditure was made to improve infrastructure facilities in this area," he said, adding, "condition of roads and sewerage lines is in very bad condition in the entire city, especially in Korangi industrial area."
The Nazim informed the business community that the city government has decided to give Rs 50 million each to 18 towns of the city for revamping water and sewerage systems.
He said that he has advised all the Town Nazims to prepare projects in this connection and submit them for approval.
Syed Mustafa Kamal pointed out that the daily city water requirement is around 640 MGD whereas the city is getting around 540 MGD water. He said that K-III project would be completed for 100MGD additional water by the end of June 2006.
He pointed out that after completion of this project there should be no water shortage in the city.
Syed Mustafa Kamal said that he was told after taking over the charge of the city Nazim in different briefings of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) officials that the projects would be completed on time and the city would get additional water.
Explaining the actual problem he said only one company was authorised to supply pipes to the KWSB whereas this company's total production has already been booked for two years. "How this company will provide pipes to the KWSB," he questioned. He said that under this condition the city government has decided to authorise five more companies making pipers of similar standard to supply pipes to the KWSB to solve this problem.
ABBASI HOSPITAL: About Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, he said that 'this 850-bed hospital is in very bad shape because no attention was paid to this hospital.' "The hospital is faced with shortage of medicines and doctors," he said.
He assured businessmen and general public that they would see a remarkable improvement in water supply, sewerage system, education and medical facilities in one year.
Welcoming the guest, chairman Kati Gulzar Firoz urged the Nazim to regularise those industrial plots, which were allotted by the KDA under the chief minister quota and were frozen in 2001.
