They proposed that the House should pass a unanimous condemnation resolution thereon. The opposition said that the National Security Council (NSC), purely an advisory body, is taking all decisions by sidelining the Parliament.
Before the assembly resumed debate, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Riaz Hussain Pirzada were seen busy in discussions in two opposite corners of the House. Hamid Nasir Chattha and Shujaat also held a brief discussion and later made an exit.
Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed asked Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in the House that he should prove his 'worth' and restore supremacy of the Parliament and let civilians accomplish rehabilitation.
The treasury appeared on the back foot in the face of the opposition's verbal onslaught and Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao was the lone minister to respond to it.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman wanted the government to apprise the House of relief activities and present a detailed report on all related aspects of its policy vis-à-vis the quake aftermath.
It will be a breach of the House and its members if we are not taken into confidence and also not entrusted with the rehabilitation task. We also want to know how much local and foreign aid has been accumulated and pledged and the details of its utilisation," he said.
"Those who backed out from a commitment to the nation, are now finding it hard to face their representatives in the Parliament," he added.
Fazl expressed dismay over what he called the rulers' inability to reciprocate to the opposition's gesture of unity and solidarity in and outside the Parliament for not taking them on board when it comes to rehabilitation and welfare of the victims.
Coming down heavily on the government's Foreign Policy, he made mention of the 'confession' by General Musharraf that the world community's response to this hour of tragedy and human sufferings was not as expected and that it was reflective of its double standards.
Sherpao, in his speech, paid tributes to the nation, the ruling coalition and the opposition parties for setting aside their differences to jointly work for relief and rehabilitation of the quake victims.
"Each and every member openly spoke on the subject and freely aired proposals that proves the House is supreme and independent. This is what is all about parliamentary democracy," he said.
It was a demonstration of solidarity that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani visited Balakot and inaugurated schools there on Thursday.
The minister showered praise on the non-governmental organisations and the world community for their timely aid and assistance in the aftermath of the disaster.
He said that as many as 75 countries helped the government in rescue and relief activities and 600 flights from abroad arrived for delivering relief goods. He called it a success of the government's Foreign Policy.
