The Prime Minister appreciated the Speaker's efforts in conducting a very wholesome debate in the National Assembly in the wake of the national calamity of earthquake, according to a press release.
Prime Minister Aziz said he had already offered to set up a parliamentary committee representing all major parties in the National Assembly. The committee would monitor, co-ordinate and guide the overall relief and reconstruction effort being carried out by the various government agencies and departments.
The Speaker informed the Prime Minister that during the parliamentary year, 18 bills were passed by the National Assembly, which and was the highest number during the last three years.
Complimenting the Speaker, the Prime Minister observed that the Speaker had been successful in bringing the highest number of parliamentarians to the House during the debates and promoted active participation by the members in general and during the post-earthquake period in particular, which enabled the government to have an honest and valuable feedback that ultimately helped improve the strategy.
The Prime Minister appreciated the fact that opposition extended its co-operation during the debate on earthquake and hoped that this process would lead to major interaction on national issues and promote healthy parliamentary atmosphere.
The Speaker commended the Prime Minister for co-operation extended by the government and his keen personal interest in the proceedings.
He particularly mentioned the fact that the Prime Minister virtually shifted his office to his National Assembly Chamber during crucial times which not only promoted a healthy debate on national issues and created a congenial atmosphere but also encouraged active participation by all members cutting across the party divides.
