A signing ceremony took place between the Government of Japan and the United Nations Children Fund (Unicef) here in presence of Federal Health Minister, Muhammad Nasir Khan.
Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Nobukai Tanaka and Unicef representative Omar Abdi inked the agreement.
Funds provided by the Japanese government in continuation of its support to the National Polio Eradication Programme would be used to procure 46 million doses of oral polio vaccine in next one year.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Nasir Khan appreciated the generous support of the Japanese government in health sector, especially to root out crippling disease of polio.
He said the government would make it sure that every young survivor in quake affected areas gets polio vaccine along with other necessary medical treatment.
Khan said that Pakistan is playing leading role in South Asia in fight against Polio.
The health minister said only 19 cases have been reported in the current year so far and vowed that Pakistan would soon become a polio free country in next couple of months.
Sharing his views, Japanese ambassador Nobukai Tanaka expressed sympathy with the earthquake victims and assured that they would continue their untiring effort in helping survivors.
