Veterinarians of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) have introduced an advanced technique for diagnosis of brain defect in cat. This is the first ever use of CT scan and MRI in the confirmation of diagnosis of cerebellar hypoplasia in the pet animals in Pakistan.

A team of veterinary scientists at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery recently confirmed the occurrence of cerebellar hypoplasia in a pet cat brought at the out-door clinic.

The facilities for CT scan and MRI were not available at any of veterinary hospital in Pakistan. However, two local human hospitals extended the services of these state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques for the confirmation of brain disorder in cat.

The veterinary scientists said that cerebellar hypoplasia (under development of a part of brain) is a brain defect of human and animal.

Majority of human and animal patients are born with this brain defect. In suspected cases, the disease cannot be diagnosed solely on the basis of sign and recourse has to be made to advanced diagnostic techniques like computer tomography scan (CT scan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) using these cutting-edge techniques.

The UAF veterinarians have successfully used these modern techniques for the first time for the diagnosis of this complicated brain defect.

Dr Muhammad Nadeem Aasi, Dr Muhammad Saqib, Dr M. Hammad Hussain, and Dr Ghulam Muhammad were included in this team of veterinarians.
