"We will start work on the Rs 5.142 billion REIP as soon as possible to make sure that after acquisition of land the designing process would be taken into hand," he said, while addressing a review meeting of the REIP here on Tuesday.
DCO, Wasa officials and representatives of other concerned departments attended the meeting. Wasa Managing Director Aslam Ali Sabzwari briefed the district Nazim about the salient features of the project and also informed him about the progress on the part of Wasa.
Last week, Javed Ikhlas has signed loan agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila under which the bank would provide 70 percent of the REIP, amounting to Rs 5.142 billion. Wasa, tehsil government and provincial government would bear 30 percent cost, which includes land and other expertise.
Javed Ikhlas informed the meeting that REIP would not only help in improving the environment, but would also enhance the economic scenario. He said that the district government would hold negotiations with station commander of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board for construction of causeway on the banks of the Nullah Lai.
He said that he would also hold dialogue with the administration of Islamabad for construction of slaughterhouses.
Ikhlas directed the Town Nazims of Rawal and Potohar towns to identify 15 points for construction of modern toilets for general public. He said that filtration plants would also be set up in all the union councils to ensure provision of clean drinking water to the people.
He directed the authorities to inform him if there are any bottlenecks in the initiation of the REIP and said that the government would not tolerate any delay in this important project.
