The statement was delivered by Ms Veronica Eastwood of the Philippines in her capacity as the co-ordinator of the Asia-Pacific Tuesday morning's session of the Committee on Employment and Social Policy.
Joint secretary Ahsan Akhtar Malik, while delivering Pakistan's national statement in the committee drew the attention of the international community to the massive catastrophe that had hit parts of North Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir exactly one-month ago and sought greater international assistance in ensuring that jobs and livelihoods are returned to affected areas.
He also lauded the ILO role for undertaking immediate relief and reconstruction efforts.
He underscored the need to carry out labour-intensive programme: both during the relief and rehabilitation phase to ensure that lost jobs are returned to affected areas.
