Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri on Tuesday applauded timely assistance Pakistan received from Switzerland for the people in earthquake affected areas.

Talking to Switzerland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Political Director Urs Ziswiler, who called on him at the Foreign Office, Kasuri said Pakistan traditionally enjoyed very good relations with Switzerland.

The Swiss delegation is on two-day visit to Pakistan for annual bilateral consultations of the two countries to institutionalise linkages between them.

In the wake of October 8 earthquake, Switzerland responded swiftly and seven-member Swiss Rapid Response Team arrived in Pakistan to assist in rescue operations. Subsequently, the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation in Pakistan disbursed a sum of Swiss Franks 4.950 million for the relief operations.

So far, Switzerland has donated 200 tons of relief goods comprising tents, blankets, water treatment plants and machinery for use in relief efforts.
