Ireland has pledged to provide a total of 3 million Euros in aid to support rehabilitation efforts in the quake-stricken areas besides providing medical equipment and necessary medicines for the hospitals of AJK and NWFP.

The Irish College of Medicine will provide training in handling acute trauma cases to psychiatrists working in the country. In this regard Irish Master trainers will start their work soon.

Irish Medical Organisation President, Dr Asian Ishtiaq disclosed this in a meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee held here on Tuesday.

Robert Belhouse, Director Resource Network of the World Economic Forum informed the meeting that his organisation had set up a fund raising network to collect funds for rehabilitation.

Resources are being tapped from international donors and multi nationals, informed Belhouse.

A team of ten professionals has arrived in Pakistan to help in management of donations pouring in from all over the world. The network has sent two medical teams to assist in medical relief in the stricken areas.

The meeting was informed that 5,000 courses to FB medication had been provided by the Global Drug Facility for the quake victims.

NIH Executive Director, Professor KA Karamat informed that todate 287,263 children in the affected areas had been immunised against measles while 36,358 were immunised against the disease in AJK 21,370 injured persons were vaccinated against tetanus whereas 50,929 injured were given tetanus immunisation in AJK to protect them against the disease.

Federal Health Secretary, Syed Anwar Mahmood informed that 7,000 doses of anti-tetanus Globulin had arrived in Pakistan on Sunday from Canada to replenish the existing stock of 22,000 doses of ATG.

He directed that additional doses of Anti-Tetanus Globulin be provided to all major hospitals dealing with the quake victims to meet urgent demand.

The meeting was informed that 450 doses of Anti-Diphtheria Serum have been donated by Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association. The serum will be available to deal with possible outbreak of the disease in the quake-hit-areas.
