Karachi University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, referring to the appeal of President General Pervez Musharraf, has asked the alumni of the institution now settled abroad to come forward for support of their disaster-affected brethren of Azad Kashmir and NWFP.

A spokesman of the Karachi University in a statement on Monday said that the vice-chancellor was expressing views with expatriate Pakistanis consisting of alumni of Karachi University, who called on him to exchange Eid greetings.

Professor Pirzada termed the most devastating tragedy in the history of Pakistan as being far worse than Tsunami.

He said that the October 8 earthquake had caused massive destruction in an area of 30,000 square kilometers claiming thousands of lives, leaving hundreds of thousands homeless and thousands were seriously injured.

The vice-chancellor was of the view that a true development spirit would make the long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction work possible.

He stressed upon the visitors to extend all possible donations towards the President's Relief Fund for the earthquake victims and also come up with medicines, dry fruit items, tents and blankets etc.

Professor Pirzada informed that the Psychology Department of Karachi University would be sending, after the semester examinations, two teams of its students for the psychological rehabilitation of the quake-affected people.
