Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has granted approval for the establishment of permanent and autonomous institutions in the province for the implementation of 'Support a Family' programme.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister's House here on Monday. PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed, and senior officers of provincial administration also attended the meeting.

Shujaat Hussain said the Punjab government's 'Support a Family' project would go a long way in the rehabilitation of quake survivors and he would also take part in the campaign for collecting donations for this programme.

The chief minister said it was a matter of satisfaction that a large number of philanthropists and welfare organisations have shown their desire to actively participate in 'Support a Family' programme.

He said the distribution of financial assistance under this programme would be started from already registered deserving persons living in tent villages and hospitals. Side by side 'Support a Family' project, other welfare programmes for calamity-hit people are also continuing and final shape is being given to the arrangements for providing shelter to 500 children in the provincial metropolis.

The provincial government would provide accommodation and food as well as educational facilities to such children, he added.
