German chipmaker Infineon made a profit at its memory chip unit in its fourth quarter to September, newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagzeitung said on Sunday, citing industry sources.

The paper said the unit made a profit before interest and tax of 88 million euros ($106.1 million) in the first three quarters and had also closed the fourth quarter with a profit.

The paper quoted the unit's head Kin Wah Loh as saying that the memory chip unit was recovering fast but he declined to give numbers for the fourth quarter.

The paper said Loh also confirmed that the company's board was thinking of a break-up of the group.
