Colossal structural damage by October 8th earthquake, which has taken a toll of over 73,000 lives while over 79,000 other sustained injuries, some of them seriously, in Northern areas and Azad Kashmir was the greatest disaster of the country's history.

The catastrophe has wiped out all civic and government structures within second reducing the Azad Kashmir government into a solitary tent and converting the scenic beauty into a pathetic scene of death and destruction.

The statement of the prime minister of Azad Kashmir on the second day of the tragedy that 'he is now the prime minister of huge graveyards' speaks volume of the situation faced by the unfortunate people of Kashmir. The entire Kashmir was dotted with corpses, injured and millions of homeless yearning for rescue and relief.

The entire nation not only grieved over the massive devastation and loss of lives, it also participated in rescue and relief operation but it is time when we turn our grief into learning a lesson.

It is significant to note that the Margalla Tower, the 11-storied building in Islamabad located at a distance of around 95 kilometres from the epic centre collapsed at the point while a number of other structures in the vicinity of Margalla suffered minimal damage.

In the fate of Margalla Tower lies great deal of information that the structural engineers in the country should come up for better structural design for high-rise buildings or else the tragedy continues to haunt the people living in multi-storied buildings in earthquake zones for years together.
