Brazil's 2005/06 (May/April) cocoa arrivals from Bahia and other states totalled 2.52 million 60-kg bags by October 30, up 27 percent from 1.98 million bags a year ago, the Bahia Commercial Association said.

Bahia state, Brazil's main cocoa producer, delivered 53,609 bags in the week, down from 72,646 bags a year earlier.

"Arrivals from Bahia maintained last week's level but continue far below the volume of previous crops," cocoa analyst Thomas Hartmann said in the association's weekly report.

He added that, as a consequence, the cumulative total of the current 2005/06 crop (the Brazilian season starting May), which until now had remained above the last six seasons, has fallen below the volume of the 2003/04 crop.

"Arrivals from other states were routine, with the cumulative total above previous years," said Hartmann.

The expected rainfall at the beginning of the week was limited to the northernmost parts of Bahia's cocoa region. All remaining areas remained dry and sunny.

Temperatures continued to hover at 21 to 33 degrees Celsius (70 to 91 degrees Fahrenheit).

After having advanced to 46 to 50 reais per arroba (15 kg) on October 26, in reaction to a combination of higher terminal quotes and a brief rally of the dollar against the local real, Bahia's farm gate prices lost all gains and closed on Tuesday at 45 to 48 reais per arroba.
