"The wool market is battling to gain ground as demand remains subdued. Prices of long wool micron categories were mixed, with some categories down while others gained," Cape Wools said in a statement.
The rand, whose movements against international currencies often affect South African wool prices, had weakened 0.7 percent from the previous week's sale, it said. Around 8,409 bales were offered and 91 percent were sold. About 9,000 bales will be offered at next week's sale.
