A Bangladeshi farmer was shot dead allegedly by Indian border guards Thursday, just days after New Delhi assured Dhaka it would show restraint along their long and porous border, officials said.

Three Bangladeshi farmers were grazing their cattle in Bangladesh territory at Benapole along the western border when members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly opened fire, killing one on the spot, a spokesman for Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) told AFP.

The death follows the killing of a fisherman allegedly by Indian border troops at Doulatpur in western Bangladesh on Wednesday, the spokesman said.

India has not commented on the BDR reports.
