He also appealed to the people to generously donate in the President's Relief Fund to alleviate the hardships and sufferings of the affected people.
In his message on Eid-ul-Fitr, the president urged the people to remember the earthquake victims on the occasion as a lot still needed to be done for their rehabilitation.
"It is my appeal to you to remember the earthquake victims in your Eid festivities, celebrate Eid with simplicity and deposit Fitrana, Zakat and donations in the President's Relief Fund. Your assistance will be helpful in alleviating the hardships and pain of the earthquake victims," he said.
He commended the demonstration of unity displayed by the nation in support of the quake-stricken people. "Each and every segment of the nation displayed exemplary spirit of solidarity, harmony and unity in mitigating the sufferings and tribulations of the earthquake-hit people, which is highly commendable." However, he reminded, there was still a lot to be done for the rehabilitation of the affected people.
President Musharraf said that this year the festival of Eid was being observed as a moment of sorrow.
In NWFP and AJK, as a result of devastation caused by the recent earthquake, many of our children became orphan, parents lost their beloved ones and numerous women became widows, he said.
"Thousands of people were injured and hundreds of thousands were rendered homeless. The estimate of financial loss exceeds billions of rupees. It was such a colossal human tragedy that the nation should not be able to recover from the consequent agony for a long time," he added.
Musharraf greeted the people and said the nation bowed in gratitude to Allah Almighty for granting us the patience, fortitude, courage, steadfastness and spirit of worship in the holy month of Ramazan.
"Due to His blessings we fulfilled the duty of fasting with sincerity and submission and bowed our heads before Allah. By virtue of this, our faith and belief has been strengthened. It was on account of the blessings and grace of Allah Almighty that we were bestowed with honour and dignity of this holy month.
"I pray to Allah Almighty to protect us from trials, forgive our mistakes, guide us to become real human beings and give us the courage and steadfastness to face difficulties and challenges.
In a separate message, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said the nation has showed courage, strength and determination in the time of crisis, while standing united to cope with the after-effects of the devastating earthquake.
He urged the people to celebrate Eid day with those who suffered in the earthquake so that they do not feel being left alone in their hour of distress.
"We must remember the affected children and adults, visit them in their camps and hospitals, so that they realise that the entire nation stands with them in this difficult time."
The prime minister said the nation was facing the challenge posed by the worst natural calamity that hit the country, with courage, devotion and national zeal.
"We have to remain steadfast in our commitment to help hundreds and thousands of those whose lives have been devastated by this natural calamity," he said.
He said the entire nation has gone out of the way in helping the affected people and showed unprecedented spirit of brotherhood, enthusiasm, sacrifice and determination.
Shaukat said people from across the country rushed to help the quake-affected people. He said politicians, social work organisations, NGOs, volunteers and government agencies all worked with a vigour to provide succour to the devastated people.
He appreciated the people from within the country and the overseas Pakistanis for their generous donations and said their spirit rekindled the enthusiasm witnessed during the creation of Pakistan.
He asked the nation to celebrate Eid with simplicity and urged them to donate generously in the President's Relief Fund.
He said the people of Pakistan were grateful to the international community, the United Nations, and particularly the Islamic world, for rushing to the help of the quake-affected people and their rehabilitation.
"We hope they will continue to assist us in reconstruction of the areas destroyed by the earthquake, till they are fully rehabilitated."
The prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty to grant eternal peace to those who lost lives in the earthquake, early recovery of the injured and shelter for those who lost their homes.
He urged the nation to stand united in every sphere of life with the same vigour and feelings of brotherhood and amity, which they showed while facing the October 8 catastrophe.
