Makai prices were sharply higher on the grain market on Wednesday amid tight supplies, dealers said.

On the cereals side, Makai inferior type gained Rs 75 to Rs 900 and better type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 925, dealers said. Urad from Burma low type gained Rs 150 to Rs 125 while good type did not show any change at Rs 1300, they said. Guwar, however, inferior type shed Rs 20 to Rs 1880, better type gained Rs 45 to Rs 1980, they said.

On the seed side, cottonseeds oilcake with bag low type gained Rs 2 and good type was higher by Rs 5 to Rs 465 in process of trading, dealers said. Other items maintained their overnight levels.
