Pursuant to the Japan's decision to extend $12 million as bilateral emergency assistance to the Government of Pakistan for the relief of quake victims, a second consignment of 500 winterised tents arrived in Rawalpindi.

Each tent has the capacity of accommodating 6 persons. This consignment comes after the first comprising 5,000 water tanks that arrived at the Islamabad Airport on Wednesday.

The Japanese government had immediately dispatched goods worth $238,000 to the affected areas on October 11, in addition to a Japanese rescue team, a medical team to Batgram as well as 6 helicopters operated by Japan Self Defence Forces (JSDF).

The Japanese government has pledged to provide an emergency grant of 20 million dollars for relief goods as well as for the operation. $8 million out of this has already been given to the United Nations.-PR
