The number of complaints are increasing with the passage of every day as cracks are becoming more visible after the continuous aftershocks of different magnitude, a CDA official told Business Recorder.
The October 8 earthquake affected the building structures of the capital city. It hit hard especially the government buildings, including schools, colleges, Parliament lodges and offices of different miniseries, revealed the preliminary report of Capital Development Authority's structural engineers.
The CDA inspection's team after inspecting the parliamentary lodges reported that in the entrance hall of Block-B, sheer cracks were seen in two roof beams. The outer part of the Block-B was also damaged by the quake while a crack on the bottom shade on eastern side of Block-D was also detected.
The team suggested that original consultant M/s ICEPAC should be approached to inspect the building thoroughly and give their report.
In the building lodged by the ministry of religious affairs, at Melody Market, G-6 Markaz the inspectors detected some vertical cracks in few beams whereas the brickwork at some places was also seen deshaped. The walls are also filled with the cracks. The ministry was advised to get the building inspected by expert consultant engineers.
After inspection of Pak Secretariat blocks, the inspection team detected several cracks in the partition walls. The team reported that in block D, "expansion joint at top floor requires special attention". They sought removal of tiles and marble to thoroughly examine cracks.
They advised that minor cracks in partition walls should be repaired immediately while the major cracks should be reconstructed.
At Lok Virsa complex Shakar Paria, one room of executive director's block has circular crack while these is one straight crack in the roof slab at one panel in the Heritage museum.
Some cracks were also appeared in partition walls of heritage museum while there is also a crack at the bottom of a beam. The administration was advised to call the architect and consulting engineer and verify the soundness of structure.
The inspection of the Nusrat Hostel, a building of social security, the team noticed that some old cracks in the walls have widened it, which were further enlarged by the aftershocks. The building has significant cracks in many of its walls. The team recommended immediate remedial measures for the building.
At Pakistan Television Headquarter a crack was detected at the junction of bean of the Newsroom. The inspectors of CDA advised PTV engineers to examine this crack in detail. Some cracks were also detected in brick panels that were constructed afterwards.
The CDA engineers team was tasked of checking all those buildings of schools, colleges and university, which were damaged during the quake.
The preliminary reports filed by the CDA engineers recommended immediate repair and inspection of some of the educational institutes.
After inspecting Baharia College E-8 on October 20, they reported some cracks on the exterior side of the walls on each nook and corner. The auditorium ground floor was also reported affected.
The team reported cracks in various walls at different locations and levels of the O P F Girls College F-8 and recommended rechecking of the whole structure by the consultant.
Inspectors, after visiting Commerce College for women F-10/3, reported minor displacement in an expansion joint.
The inspectors checked the building of Madarassa at Haj Complex 1-14 on October 25th and found cracks within the partition walls. It advised for a through inspection of the building by the experts.
However, the CDA team has inspected only few institutions so far because of lack of modern technology and technical expertise.
