The EGM notice was extended on October 10, as 21-day period is mandatory for calling EGM. It was attended by a large number of LCCI members.
LCCI Vice President Aftab Vohra, Executive Committee members, former Presidents Iftikhar Ali Malik, Mian Anjum Nisar and Mian Misbahur Rehman were also present.
The EGM gave approval for one-time collection of Rs 3000 from Chamber Class members and Rs 1000 from Associate Class members.
Speaking on the occasion the LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali briefed the house about the circumstances, which forced the Lahore Chamber to convene EGM. He also informed the participants about the relief efforts carried out by the Lahore Chamber and its future strategy to cope with the situation.
He said that the LCCI had forwarded a proposal to the Prime Minister for the construction of a village in the area, which was damaged heavily by the deadly earthquake of October 08. He said that the country needed 500,000 houses and the construction of such a large number of housing units required co-ordinated efforts from all the circles.
Mian Shafqat Ali said that the project of 'Tent City' was in its final stage and within a week the work would be started. He also informed the participants that a consignment of tents and medicines from Denmark was in the pipeline and as soon as it reached Pakistan would be dispatched to affected areas.
