Flyovers have been planned without giving serious thoughts to high risks involved for pedestrians to cross either side of the road without risking their lives - to reach office in time without any assistance from the Police Department to help them cross the road.
Traffic signals and zebra crossings have been removed from many roads, including Shahrah-e--Faisal. It is rather a criminal ignorance on the part of the Karachi Police, print and electronic media to have taken notice of the high risks involved in crossing of roads on either side by pedestrians during peak hours?
The Karachi Administration and Police should have thought of providing facility for crossing the roads which is usually in the form of overhead bridges for pedestrians. It is the usual routine behaviour in our country's administration, Ministries and Police to "make haste" in implementing government's decisions without looking back what will be the consequences for the masses?
Why infrastructures like overhead bridges, zebra crossings and posting of constables to assist people at Nursery, Ayesha Bawany School, FTC Building, Sindhi Muslim Society crossings and other "risk points" have not been arranged during peak hours.
Will television channels and newspapers depute their reporters with cameras to watch how children, old women and office staff seen from one end to another to cross the road? The immediate solution is construction of overhead steel bridges without delay.
That is the quickest and economic solution provided our provincial government wakes up!
