The Cabinet is likely to take up the issue of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) in its meeting here on Tuesday, besides approving the long awaited KESC's matched bid of Rs 1.65 per share offered by the reconstituted consortium of Hasan Associates, it is learnt.

Sources said that Privatisation Commission officials would inform the Cabinet about the outcome of deliberations in Dubai between the Privatisation Minister Hafeez Shaikh and Etisalat.

Sources said that the Cabinet would also consider amendments in Cotton Standardisation Act, as proposed by Ministry of Textile Industry. The amendments have been prepared after marathon consultations with all stakeholders, it is learnt.

According to proposed the amendments, the Board of Directors of Cotton Standards Institute would be headed by Textile Ministry Secretary and will include a representative of that ministry, instead of Food Ministry.

The Textile Industry ministry has proposed amendments to sub-section 1 and 2 of section 5 of the Cotton Standardisation Ordinance 2002.

The Cabinet would also consider setting up of 'Education Regulatory Authority' (ERA) to deal with private sector institutions some of which are said to be involved in unhealthy activities.

The issue was brought before the Cabinet in its previous meeting, but was not considered due to the absence of Education Minister.

Sources said that the Cabinet would also discuss Lahore-Nankana-Amritsar bus service between Pakistan and India.

The issues of small claims and minor offences besides amendments in Police Ordinance would also be considered, sources said, adding that the Cabinet would approve some Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with other countries.

Sources said that Federal Relief Commissioner (FRC), Major General Farooq Khan, will brief the Cabinet regarding relief activities in the earthquake-hit areas of NWFP and AJK.
