Wheat futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were lower on Friday amid a slide in soy and jitters about the fate of a reported sale of US wheat to Iraq, traders said.

Pit sources said the volume was very light and most of the sales stemmed from locals in addition to some Kansas City/Chicago wheat spreading. At 10:51 am CDT (1551 GMT), CBOT wheat was down 1 to 3-1/2 cents per bushel, with December down 3 at $3.21-1/2 per bushel.

There was nothing in the export arena overnight to drive wheat futures higher. Global demand continues to center on the higher protein milling wheat such as the hard red winter traded in Kansas City and spring wheat traded in Minneapolis.
