The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to withdraw the condition of submitting attested copy of Computerised National Identity Card Number (CNIC) for obtaining National Tax Number (NTN).

A CBR official told Business Recorder on Friday that CBR issues NTN to the taxpayers after prior verification from National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

In the presence of authentic online verification process, there is no need of demanding 'attested' copy of CNIC from the taxpayers. The online confirmation of the taxpayer's particulars itself is a verification process.

Thus, the taxpayers would be required to only submit the CNIC photocopy to the NTN Centres for obtaining NTN.

Under the new system, NTN Cells have been given online access system with Nadra database, which would be used for verification purposes. Pre-Nadra verification is necessary to avoid issuance of wrong NTN.
