Malaysian share prices closed flat on Thursday in listless trade, with most investors reluctant to take any fresh positions ahead of public holidays next week, dealers said.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index lost 0.75 points at 904.46. Volume was 293.93 million shares worth 734.23 million ringgit (195 million dollars) and losers outnumbered gainers 341 to 293.

"Next week's holidays are keeping investors on the sidelines. The market is expecting to remain the same tomorrow and next week," a local brokerage dealer said.

The ringgit was traded at 3.7750 to the dollar.

Bursa Malaysia will close on next Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for the Hindu and Muslim festivals.

Among blue chips, Tenaga Nasional was down 0.20 ringgit at 10.00, extending its losses from Wednesday, after the company posted below-expectations results for the year to August, dealers said.

Telekom Malaysia was down 0.10 at 9.80 and Malayan Banking fell 0.10 to 11.40.
