US nearby cocoa futures finished in negative territory Thursday, weighed down as a flood of beans arrive at ports in top cocoa producer Ivory Coast for export, traders said.

The New York Board of Trade's active December cocoa contract eased $3 to settle at $1,415 a tonne, after trading from $1,407 to a new four-week high of $1,428. March cocoa dipped $4 to end at $1,453, while back months closed down $4 to $7.

The country's cocoa bean exports for the 2004/05 (October-September) season totalled 925,454 tonnes, down about 9 percent from the previous year, port data showed.
